On June 6th, 2008, over 300 Nashville residents marched in solidarity for worker's rights. One of the main purposes of the rally was to highlight the struggle for justice for Nashville's Taxi Cab Drivers, but more generally June 6th was about human rights for all of Nashville's working class. The Nashville Movement is a growing coalition, of workers, community organizations, students, and congregations, committed to ending poverty, and winning respect, with and for the poorest workers in Nashville.

The coalition was formed when the Mid TN Jobs with Justice, Nashville Homeless Power Project, Urban Epicenter, and Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, came together in 2007, collectively realizing that the poorest workers in Nashville desperately needed to have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

The Nashville Movement is now laying the ground work for a broad based worker rights movement that can win lasting improvements for the poorest workers!

Living Wage

The campaign to pass a living wage ordinance for Nashville Metro workers. A living wage “affords the earner and her or his family the most basic costs of living without need for government support or poverty programs.” The estimate for Nashville is $10.35.

Car Wash

Car Wash workers in Nashville are some of the hardest working, most exploited, least paid workers in the city. This campaign is resolved to make sure their hard work is compensated fairly and that they are treated justly by their employers.

Justice for Taxi Drivers

The Nashville Movement supports the Metro Nashville Taxi Drivers Association, an alliance working to secure justice for Taxi Drivers throughout Nashville.
